Mayor John Tory calls on federal government to work on tighter gun restrictions as the number of violent incidents involving guns in the city escalates.

Toronto has logged 402 shooting incidents so far in 2016 – an increase of more than 40 per cent compared to 2015. Of those shootings, 39 have resulted in deaths, while 151 have resulted in injuries.

Tory in a letter sent to Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale last week calls the rising gun violence “troubling” and says more must be done to keep weapons off the streets.
