Signs banning children over the age of three from opposite gender change rooms at municipal pools in London, Ont. will be removed following outrage from parents.

The signs posted at various municipal pools read: “Children over the age of 3 are not permitted in the opposite sex change room. If necessary, please ask a staff member to escort your child through the proper change room.”

The rule sparked outrage online, with many parents saying they would never let their young children go into a change room with a stranger.

Coun. Mo Salih said he learned about the signs on Saturday and immediately contacted the city’s manager of aquatic services.

Salih said the pool signs will be removed and the language in the city policy will be updated to make the rules more clear and consistent.
