Ahead of the 2022 Ontario general election, the Elections Ontario is encouraging the residents to request the mail-in ballots besides taking the advantage of extra days of advanced voting this year. The new steps are aimed to conduct elections keeping the safety measures amid Covid-19.

Reportedly, the Ontario voters will now be able to register online with Elections Ontario to request a 'ballot by mail' from May 4 to May 27. Meanwhile, there will now be 10 days (from earlier 5) to vote in advance for the 2022 Ontario general election, which is scheduled to be held on June 2.

The other provinces that conducted pandemic elections witnessed a significant rise in demand for voting by mail, said Chief electoral officer Greg Essensa.

The political parties are currently gearing up for the campaigning strategizing campaign plans and contingency arrangements as the official campaign are about to begin.

Earlier, the Chief electoral officer Greg Essensa had written to the chief medical officer in the summer of 2020 asking for a task force. Two offices have been holding meetings on a regular basis since then, Greg said.

Elections Ontario has been working closely with the top doctor and looking at the work done by the past jurisdictions.
