Arrest made in Scarborough playground shooting
Sheldon Eriya arrested
Toronto Police have made an arrest in shooting in playground of a Scarborough Housing complex where two young sisters were injured and taken to hospital.
On Thursday afternoon, two girls, aged 5 and 9, were shot though not targeted at while playing in a small playground in a Scarborough housing complex. The girls required surgery for their injuries and are expected to recover.
Police say a car pulled up and a male emerged from the passenger seat and began shooting at an adult male target who was also in the park.
The Toronto Police Service announced on Saturday that Sheldon Eriya, 21, of Markham, was arrested in Pickering in connection with the case.
Eriya has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm, possession of cocaine, and possession of proceeds of crime.
None of the allegations have been tested in court.
