Bank of Canada releases the list of five women to be gracing the next Bank Note

The Bank of Canada has released the list of five women, one of them to be chosen for her image to be featured on the Bank notes.

The list was selected from 461 eligible nominees submitted by Canadians, says Bank of Canada.

The 5 nominees are

Viola_Desmond, who fought racial discrimination in Nova Scotia, Pauline_Johnson, a poet who was the daughter of a Mohawk chief and an English woman

Bobbie_Rosenfeld, an athlete who won a silver and gold medal at the 1928 Olympics and went on to become a sports columnist

Elsie_MacGill, the first woman in Canada to receive a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in aeronautical engineering.

Idola_Saint_Jean, a feminist and pioneer in the fight for suffrage in Quebec.

The winner will be announced on December 8, 2016.
