A barbecue is scheduled today in an east-end Toronto park to raise money for a scholarship and to support the family of a woman killed in a mass shooting last month.

Eighteen-year-old Reese Fallon and 10-year-old Julianna Kozis were killed and 13 others were injured when a gunman shot at pedestrians and restaurant-goers on Toronto’s bustling Danforth Avenue.

Toronto Mayor John Tory is planning to attend the fundraiser and organizers say they’re expecting more than 1,000 people at the barbecue that will offer food, drinks, live music, a silent auction and raffle draw.

Organizers say proceeds will to go to the Reese Fallon Scholarship Fund and the Fallon family.

Fallon was getting ready to start the nursing program at McMaster University when she was killed and the community is raising money with a goal of $75,000 to establish the scholarship fund.

The scholarship would go each year to a graduate of Malvern Collegiate entering a nursing program, as a way to keep Fallon’s memory alive.
