BRAMPTON CITY COUNCIL ACCEPTS INTEGRITY COMMISSIONER REPORT
IC report accepted today by city council Aug 5,2020. RC Gurpreet Dhillon Removed as Chair of Economic Development, from the Community Safety Committee and asked to be removed from Board of Directors of FCM. Request to Region of Peel for Integrity Commissioner investigation there, and a motion from Council asking for RC Dhillon’s resignation.
Brampton council has voted to suspend wards 9 and 10 city and Peel Region Coun. Gurpreet Dhillon for three months without pay.
Brampton council unanimously supported the integrity commissioner’s recommendations while Dhillon was not present during the discussion.
In addition to the 90-day suspension without pay, council issued an official reprimand, ordering Dhillon to issue a formal apology to the alleged victim. Dhillon has also been removed as chair of the city’s Economic Development and Culture committee. He’s also being restricted him from communicating with residents outside of email, prohibited him from travelling on city business outside of Ontario, and barred him from city hall outside of retrieving mail and attending city council meetings.
However, Dhillon commented on the same and said he’s “deeply troubled” by City Council’s “rushed decision”.
