Brampton organises Nishan Sahib flag raising ceremony at its city hall

A Nishan Sahib flag raising ceremony was held at Brampton's city hall on Friday in view of the Sikh Heritage Month.

Brampton is said to be the home to one of the largest populations of Sikhs in the global diaspora. Besides Brampton, similar flag raising events were held in cities across Canada for the Sikh Heritage Month.

Meanwhile, Regional Councillor in Brampton, Gurpreeet Singh Dhillon, addressed the gathering and said, "I was glad to speak at the Sikh Heritage Month celebration today at City Hall."

Likewise, Surrey RCMP took to Twitter and wrote: "April is Sikh Heritage Month. It’s an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about Sikh Canadians and the important role they have played and continue to play in communities across Canada."

Earlier in the month, the Minister of Transport and MP for Mississauga Centre, Omar Alghabra, had congratulated the Sikh community ahead of the Sikh Heritage Month.

"Happy Sikh Heritage Month! This month recognizes and highlights the important contributions that Sikh communities have made and continue to make to Canada’s social, economic, political, and cultural heritage," he tweeted.
