City of Brampton announces Mayor’s COVID-19 Youth Support Task Force

BRAMPTON, ON (March 20, 2020) – Today, the City of Brampton announced its fourth specialized task force to support the local economy and Brampton’s communities: the Mayor’s COVID-19 Youth Support Task Force.

Co-Chaired by Harkirat Singh, City Councillor, Wards 9 and 10, and Charmaine Williams, City Councillor, Wards 7 and 8, this specialized team will help coordinate access to information and resources that Brampton’s youth need most during this time.

This group will work closely with the City of Brampton Emergency Operations Centre and City staff managing effective response to get ahead of COVID-19 and coordinate the resources and support that our youth need during this difficult time.

This Task Force will look to:
1. Support opportunities for engaging youth as the City’s libraries and Recreation centers are closed
2. Coordinate with the Region of Peel on child care supports, and shelter for vulnerable youth
3. Coordinate supports and information for youth on mental health organizations in Brampton
4. Additional engagement opportunities for volunteers and stakeholders to support our youth

While City Hall is closed to help protect residents and employees, we are continuing to work around the clock to support our local economy, and our youth across our City.

Supporting the next generation is an important way that our Council can prepare the City for the future.
Today’s announcement follows this week’s launch of the Mayor’s COVID-19 Economic Support, Social Support, and Seniors Support Task Forces. Read more on this here.

Quote

“While City Hall remains closed to help protect Brampton residents and employees, Council continues to work to ensure we are collaborating to support Brampton residents, especially our youth. This new task force will ensure we are engaging Brampton’s youth in meaningful ways, ensuring they have spaces to learn, stay active, and engaged with the supports they need, whether that is recreation options, mental health support or shelter. Together with our stakeholders, we are committed to minimizing the impact of COVID-19 on Brampton’s youth.”
