It’s Absurd,’ Shami Hits Back at Sania Mirza Marriage Rumours with a Scathing Response

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has recently confronted the swirling marriage rumours linking him with tennis star Sania Mirza, asserting a clear message about the necessity of responsible social media behaviour.

In recent months, a multitude of posts and memes have circulated, alleging that Shami is poised to marry Mirza. Despite the fervent speculation, neither Shami nor Mirza had confirmed these reports until now. In a candid interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Shami addressed the rampant online speculation and its ramifications.

Shami expressed his concern over the spread of misinformation, urging the public to exercise caution when engaging with such content. While acknowledging the allure of memes as a source of amusement, he cautioned that they can also propagate falsehoods. “I urge everyone to act responsibly on social media and refrain from disseminating such baseless news,” Shami asserted.

He elaborated on the absurdity of the situation, describing the discomfort of seeing one’s own image proliferate across the internet amidst unfounded speculation. Shami emphasized the importance of respecting individuals’ personal lives, asserting, “It’s quite absurd. You open your phone and see your own photo everywhere. But I want to say one thing—no one should drag others into such matters. Memes might be a joke for you, but they often involve someone's personal life. Therefore, memes should be created with greater consideration. If you're not on a verified page, don’t speak.”

The cricketer’s remarks underscore a call for accountability and integrity in the digital age. “If you have the courage, prove it from a verified page, then we can discuss it. It’s easy to make fun of others. Strive for success and elevate your own level. Then I’ll believe you’re a person of substance,” Shami added.

For context, Mohammed Shami married Hasin Jahan in 2014, and the couple has a son together. Their relationship has been marred by challenges, including domestic violence charges filed by Jahan in 2018. Sania Mirza, who wed Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010, announced her divorce earlier this year. The couple also shares a son.
