Raghav Chadha, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP, announced on Sunday that Air India has begun new direct flights between Amritsar and London, as well as one to Birmingham.

The Rajya Sabha member said on Twitter that over the previous two legislative sessions, he had repeatedly raised Punjab's demand to have access to international air connectivity.

"Good news, Punjabis. Air India has started additional direct flights btw Amritsar-London and one to Birmingham. I’ve tried to consistently raise Punjab's demand for international air connectivity over the last two parliamentary sessions. Will work to improve connectivity further, "In a tweet, Chadha remarked.

On December 19 of the previous year, he also brought up the subject during the winter session of Parliament.

The problem was also brought up earlier in August 2022 by the AAP MP for Punjab in the form of an unstarred question to the Minister of Civil Aviation.

Chadha inquired about the specifics of new international flights that had been added to the Mohali and Amritsar airports over the last five years.

Chadha also inquired as to why flight services from Amritsar airport to Canada have not been added, even though a large number of passengers fly to the said destination from said source each year.
