Region of Peel – Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau would like to advise the public that a decision has been reached in a 2018 homicide trial.

On Friday, January 12, 2018, at 10:45 p.m., officers responded to a call at a residence on Starhill Crescent in the City of Brampton. Two victims, Baljit Thandi and her mother Avtar Kaur, were located inside the residence suffering from stab wounds. They died as a result of their injuries.

Dalwinder Singh, the husband of Baljit Thandi, was charged with two counts of First Degree Murder. At the conclusion of the trial, Baljit Thandi was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences, with no chance of parole for 25 years.

“While a conviction brings the court process to a close, the loss of Baljit and Avtar will forever leave a void in the lives of their family and friends,” said Nick Milinovich, Deputy Chief of Investigative and Emergency Services. “Preventing violent crime and intimate partner violence is a focus for Peel Regional Police. We will be steadfast in our commitment to help victims of crime”.
