Brampton City Council appointed City Councillor Harkirat Singh, Wards 9 and 10, as Deputy Mayor for the 2022 to 2026 Term of Office on 17 November.
The duties of the Deputy Mayor include presiding over Council and other Committee meetings and acting in the Mayor's place for official ceremonies and community events when the Mayor is not present or able to do so.
In response to his appointment, Harkirat Singh said “It is an honor to be appointed by my Council colleagues as this Term of Council’s Deputy Mayor. With the opportunity that lays ahead of us in Brampton, I am excited and proud to support Mayor Brown and Councillors in prioritizing community while we move our City forward“
Councillor Harkirat Singh served on Brampton Council as City Councillor, Wards 9 and 10 for the 2018 to 2022 Term, before taking on this role as City Councillor, he served a four-year term as School Trustee at the Peel District School Board.

The City of Brampton created two separate Deputy Mayor Positions in April 2022 to serve the east and west halves of the city. East Brampton was represented by regional councillor Pat Fortini, who served in wards 7 and 8, and West Brampton by regional councilor Martin Medeiros, who served in wards 3 and 4.
