The hot weather is expected to last until Saturday, with a small reprieve before increasing again on Sunday. Alberta appears to be set for another round of searing heat. On Tuesday afternoon, heat warnings were issued for much of the province, with daytime temperatures ranging from 29 to 33 degrees Celsius predicted for the rest of the week.

Some regions in east-central Alberta may experience even hotter weather, with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 30s. In contrast to the so-called heat dome that formed over the province in June, preventing the region from cooling off overnight, lows this week are anticipated to dip to 14 to 17 degrees Celsius, providing some relief.

Temperatures were expected to fall slightly on Saturday before climbing to around 30 degrees Celsius again on Sunday. Calgary, Edmonton, and much of the province's north, south, and east are all under alert.

People should take the following measures, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada:

  • Consider rescheduling outside activities for cooler times of the day.
  • Take regular indoor breaks.
  • Drink lots of water and non-alcoholic, caffeine-free drinks.
  • Before leaving a car, look for children or pets.
  • Keep an eye out for signs of heatstroke or exhaustion, such as a high body temperature, a lack of perspiration, disorientation, or fainting. Pay special care to youngsters, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing illnesses.

Wildfire officials are also on high alert due to the heat. In portions of northern Alberta, the fire threat is considered high, and there are 86 wildfires burning in forest protection zones across the province.

"Warming temperatures and wind, it may revert back to a position where we're going to have to be really, extremely careful," said Derrick Forsythe, an Alberta wildfire information officer.
