Halton Regional Police report that a suspect has been detained in connection with the fatal stabbing of a lady on Tuesday afternoon in Milton.

According to police spokesman Const. Ryan Anderson, officers were called to a home on Gosford Crescent at approximately 5:45 o'clock after someone reported a stabbing.

Anderson told reporters that when police got at the residence, they discovered a female victim who was suffering from serious injuries.

After being transported to the hospital, the victim was eventually declared dead.

Following that, in an effort to find a wanted person, police posted his name and picture on social media.

Asad Rasheed, a 40-year-old suspect, was allegedly driving a Toyota RAV 4 when the incident occurred, according to the police post.

Later, Ryan acknowledged that Rasheed was taken into custody "not far" from the incident. He stated that no more suspects were being sought by authorities.

Ryan added, "I can tell you that the victim and the suspect are known to one another," but he would not go into any detail about their friendship or if they resided in the same house.

He said that there is no danger to the public's safety.

Ryan resisted providing information about the caller's name or connection to the victim or suspect when pressed specifically who made the call to the police.

No official charges have been brought at this time, he added.
