Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, has been appointed to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.
This House of Commons committee the reviews policies, programs and expenditure plans of government departments and agencies responsible for public safety and national security, policing and law enforcement, corrections and conditional release of federal offenders, emergency management, crime prevention and the protection of Canada’s borders.
“Along with rapid population growth and development, Brampton is experiencing an increase in crime and growing concerns about community safety,” said MP Sahota. “I am humbled to be appointed to this committee and look forward to working with my new colleagues to ensure that our government’s legislation is addressing my riding’s concerns relating to crime, guns and gangs, and public safety.”
In addition, MP Sahota is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. This committee studies and reports on the rules and practices of the House and its committees, electoral matters, questions of privilege, MP conflicts of interest, internal administration of the House, and services and facilities for MPs.
MP Sahota has also been a member of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, the Special Committee on Electoral Reform, and served as the Chair of the Federal Liberal Ontario Caucus.
