
The Chandigarh international airport has been renamed Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh in honour of the revolutionary freedom warrior on his 115th birthday.
PM Modi had announced that the name of the Chandigarh airport will be changed on the name of Bhagat Singh. He said, “September 28 is a historic day of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ as it is the 115th anniversary of Bhagat Singh,” in his radio program’mann ki baat’ last Sunday.
While paying tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh PM Modi tweeted “I bow to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Ji on his Jayanti. His courage motivates us greatly. We reiterate our commitment to realise his vision for our nation.”

Bhagat singh was a young Indian revolutionary born in the village of Banga in the Lyallpur District of the Punjab. He played a major role in the India independence movement. Singh did not believe in the Gandhian ideology.
Leaders used to admire Singh irrespective of his offensive ideology. Gandhi used to oppose the violence but he still considered him to be a great patriot and martyr. Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, too expressed gratitude to PM Modi for renaming the airport and called for more international flights.
