The crime prevention experts at Peel Regional Police have designed a certificate, seminar program for seniors, “Safety for Seniors.”.
The seminar is going to be held on November 9 from 1:30 to 3:30 PM @ Mississauga Seniors’ Centre. The seminar will be offered FREE of charge, available only to residents in the Region of Peel.
There have been several incidents where elderly victims have been approached at their residences, or other public places when they are alone, by a female suspect who engages the victim in conversation. Often, the suspect will ask for directions to a local hospital or church. The suspect then embraces the victim in the guise of thanking them for their help and, while distracted, the victim’s jewellery is stolen or switched with fake items.
The seminar will teach senior citizens to keep themselves and their property safe. The crime prevention officers will talk to the participants about Personal & Property Protection, Distraction Theft Recognition, Cyber Safety, Fraud and more.
The interested seniors can call at 905-615-4810 ext. 2655 or email at sara.stinson@mississauga.ca for registration.
