Region of Peel – In the ongoing effort to communicate potential concerns surrounding public safety, investigators would like to provide information concerning a recent increase in the theft of high-end motor vehicles.
Since March 2020, the Region of Peel has experienced several incidents of high-end vehicle thefts, often involving the use of weapons and threats of violence by the suspects. In some instances, suspects are responding to advertisements for the sale of a vehicle. In others, the suspects find cars on roadways and intentionally cause a minor rear-end collisions. Two separate incidents involving a minor accident are outlined below.
On Thursday June 25, 2020, at approximately 8:45 pm, the victim was driving their vehicle in the area of Mavis Road in the City of Mississauga when a light coloured SUV rear-ended them. When the victim exited to look at the damage, they noticed the suspect seemed to be looking around suspiciously. The victim then called 9-1-1 as they believed they were about to be robbed. The suspects fled the area. The victim was not physically injured.
The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as male, Black, dark complexion, skinny build, 5’10”- 5’11”, 17-23 years old, short dark curly hair, dark eyes, wearing a surgical mask, dark long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and running shoes.
The front passenger is described as male, Black, shorter in height, dark complexion, skinny build, 17-23 years, wearing a surgical mask, and a dark shirt.
The rear passenger is described as male, Black, 5’11”-6’0” tall, dark complexion, skinny build, 17-23 years, wearing a surgical mask, and dark jeans.
At approximately 10:00 pm, a victim was driving in the area of Goreway Drive in the City of Brampton. At this time, they were rear-ended by a light coloured SUV. As the victim exited the vehicle and checked for damage, he was struck in the head by one of 4-5 suspects. A second suspect entered the driver seat of the vehicle. The victim's family confronted the suspect who fled the scene in the suspect vehicle.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
The suspect that entered the victim's vehicle is described as male, non-white, 5’6”-5’7” wearing baggy clothing and a mask covering his face.
Peel Regional Police are reminding the public of the following safety tips:
· If you believe you were intentionally contacted by another vehicle, remain in your car and dial 9-1-1
· If you are involved in an accident, exit the car and remove the keys from the ignition
· Report any suspicious activity, especially if you think someone is following you
· Do not attempt to stop the fleeing motor vehicle
