On January 5th is Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s 351st Parkash Purab, celebrating the birth of the tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, last in the line of the Gurus of the Sikh religion. The Guru was born as Gobind Rai and after initiating the Khalsa or ‘fraternity of the Pure’ took on the name Gobind Singh.

Premier Kathleen Wynne’s message on the occasion of 351st Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

“On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I am delighted to extend warm greetings to members of the Sikh community as you commemorate the 351st Parkash Purab of the 10th Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

This special day brings the Sikh community together to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji — founder of the Khalsa — and to reflect on his life’s work, his wisdom, and his teachings of equality, selfless service, and upholding justice for all.

In Ontario, this is also a time to recognize and celebrate the many enduring ways in which the Sikh community has helped shape our province into the strong and vibrant place we are so fortunate to call home.
I offer my sincere best wishes for a meaningful and joyous celebration. “
