SAAQ warns about new texting scam.

SAAQ, Quebec's auto insurance board is warning people about a new texting scam,an attempt to illegally obtain personal and confidential information, what's known as a phishing scam.

The message claims to be from the SAAQ and asks a person to pay fees to renew their driver's licence by text. The board said it has nothing to do with them and is telling people to simply delete it without replying.

Spokesperson Mario Vaillancourt said, "If you pay online, your renewal of the driver's licence, you will only have to put your specific number on your payment notice. You don't have to give your name and things like that."

The city recommends people who receive such messages report them to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or by calling 1-888-495-8501.
