Jane Philpott, the Health Minister and Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale announced a series of legislative changes today that will aid to speed up the process for opening safe injection sites.

The government expressed in a statement that the existing National Anti Drug Strategy would be replaced with a "more balanced approach" called the Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy.

The new strategy "restores harm reduction as a core pillar of Canada's drug policy."put drug policy back under the Health ministry and away from the Justice department.

The Liberals introduced Bill C-37 in the House of Commons on Monday. The bill would support the strategy by amending the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Custom's Act and the Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act.
