Safety app launched by University of Winnipeg for students.

The students can feel more secure as the University of Winnipeg has launched a free mobile safety app for students, staff, and faculty — available for iPhone and Android devices.

Its called UW Safe. It is a significant tool that sends important safety alerts and provide instant access to campus safety resources.

Talking about the app, Marty Grainger, the university's director of security services said, "You can just push one button and it'll give you the opportunity to call 911, security services or our sexual misconduct response team."

The features include

  • Safety notifications — get instant alerts and instructions when on-campus emergencies occur.
  • Emergency help — easily connect with campus security staff for help when needed.
  • Campus resources — access important safety resources in one convenient place

It also has has a "friend walk" feature that allows students to send a message to a friend asking whether they would be willing to accompany the student to their car or campus residence.
