Shraddha murder case: Aftab’s police detention is prolonged after he claims to have slain Shraddha in a “heat of the moment”

Over 35 items, including bones, clothing, and sharp objects, have so far been found in Aaftab's apartment and other forested areas during the search operations

Shraddha Walkar, a Mumbai-suburb resident, was allegedly strangled, her body chopped into multiple parts, and then dumped in several locations in a forest region in south Delhi and Gurugram by her live-in partner, Aftab Amin Poonawala, in one of the most shocking incidents.

The case that shook the nation was made public on November 14, but Vikas Walkar had already started looking for her missing daughter back in October. Shraddha’s friend had informed her father Vikas that she had been ignoring her calls and messages for a few months.

Initially approaching the Mumbai Police on October 6 while desperately looking for his daughter, Vikas Walkar later learned that she was living in Delhi with her live-in partner Aftab Amin Poonawala.

On October 10, the Mumbai Police reported the first missing person after discovering that Shraddha had been inactive on all of her social media sites. On October 26, the police also called Aftab to Mumbai and questioned him. He didn’t reveal anything at that time, though.

On November 9, after searching Shraddha, the Mumbai Police went to the Mehrauli Police Station in Delhi and informed them that Shraddha lived in Chattarpur Pahadi, a neighbourhood in south Delhi. The Delhi Police filed a FIR on November 10 and started looking for her in accordance with the pertinent legal provisions. Poonawala was located, apprehended, and when subjected to prolonged questioning, he divulged all the horrifying particulars of the heinous act that he had perpetrated on May 18 six months earlier.

Aftab initially stated that Shraddha had left him on May 22 and that he was unaware of her whereabouts when he was detained by the police. He eventually admitted killing her after a dispute over marriage after being questioned extensively.

After killing his partner on May 18, the accused Poonawala spent several months to progressively dispose of all the body pieces in the Gurugram, Haryana, and south Delhi forests. In order to prevent the horrible crime Poonawala committed from coming to light during these six months, he took a number of protective measures.

Aaftab Amin Poonawala testified in court in Delhi on Tuesday that he killed his lover in the “heat of the moment.”

The tool he had bought is used to cut pipes. Over 35 items, including bones, clothing, and sharp objects, have so far been found in Aaftab’s apartment and other forested areas during the search operations.

A polygraph and narcoanalysis test on Aftab have been approved by Delhi Police. As Aftab is allegedly trying to deceive them to lose evidence, Delhi Police is utilising controversial questioning techniques to distinguish the truth from deception.

Although Delhi sees countless violent incidents every day, some of which are extremely terrible, this specific barbaric killing of 27-year-old Shraddha has truly shaken everyone to their very core.
