Shubman Gill strikes a stunning double century in T20 league against New Zealand

The 23-year-old’s incredible innings sealed his place in history as the Mens ODI’s youngest player to ever strike a double hundred. In a Men’s ODI, Gill’s 208 ranks as the joint-ninth-highest individual score.

After the brilliant strike he became one of just eight players in history to have reached the milestone in the format. The only other player to reach a double hundred many times in ODIs is India captain Rohit Sharma (doing so three times).  Moreover, five of the eight players who have scored 200 or more in an ODI are Indian.

Gill’s effort was the most runs scored by an Indian player in an ODI against New Zealand. His 208 is the best total Gill has ever achieved for India in any format, and it is also his fourth century (three in ODIs and one in Tests).

In the middle of the innings, Gill’s scoring gained momentum and in just 23 balls, he surged from 150 to 200, passing the double-century mark after three consecutive sixes.

Gill’s 208-run performance brought his ODI career total for India to 1000 runs.

He did it more quickly than any other Indian before him, doing so in 19 games. Only Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman accomplished this record in the game’s history, and in less games (18).
