Student commits suicide at Punjab’s Lovely Professional University, blames college professor for “emotionally manipulating him” in suicide note

A massive protest took place after a 21-year-old student from Kerala was found dead in his hostel room at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab’s Phagwara. According to officials, he blamed a professor from his previous college for his decisions to switch colleges in a suicide note on Wednesday.

The situation is currently under control at LPU, according to Phagwara Superintendent of Police Mukhtiar Singh. Students held a massive protest Tuesday afternoon as word of his death spread. The LPU protest came just days after an uprising at the private Chandigarh University in Mohali over leaked videos.

According to officials, the student, who joined LPU two weeks ago from NIT (Calicut), blamed a professor there in the note for “emotionally manipulating” him into leaving the institution. “I deeply regret my decision; I am a burden to everyone.” He wrote in the note, “I’m sorry, but this is it,” the police added.

Vice-President of LPU Aman Mittal stated, “The student took this extreme action because of the personal issues he faced in his previous institution at NIT Calicut (Kerala), where he studied for two years

“Yesterday, Because of a lack of information, there was miscommunication among the other students which led to unrest on the university campus in the late evening. The police and university authorities have clarified the whole situation to the students.” Added mittal.

The student’s parents have been informed, who are reaching the university.
