Supporting Female Empowerment: Simran Mann, receives Young Achiever’s Award for outstanding activism.

Simran Mann, student at Turner Fenton Secondary School, receives the Indo-Canadian Arts and Culture Initiative’s (ICACI) Young Achiever’s Award winner for her outstanding activism to suppo​rt female empowerment at the 6th annual Celebrating Womanhood Gala event on March 24.

“CELEBRATING WOMANHOOD” organised by ICACI, a non-profit organization dedicated to “guiding members of the community to personal and professional success through participation in events, workshops and other cultural community activities”, recognizes and celebrates the work and contribution of Indo-Canadian women in its community.

Simran is recognized for her significant contributions to her community and her determination to make a difference.

Her passion is felt both in and outside of the classroom. At school, she is the president of the Me to We club, a SOAR executive for a the Student Leadership Conference dedicated to middle school students to ease their transition into high school, an executive member for Peel’s biggest student-run event, CultureFest, and part of the students activity council.

She is currently raising money to bring education to women in developing countries.

Simran put on a dance performance at the event to salute her fellow award recipients and sold raffle tickets to fundraise for women’s education in Kenya in collaboration with Me to We.
