Rupinder Kaaur, a member of the Sikh Remembrance Day organising committee, described the ceremony as “It’s a very heart-filled ceremony where we recognise a fallen Sikh soldier.”

The 15th annual Sikh Remembrance Day event was held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Kitchener to honour Private Buckam Singh, who was buried there.

He was a military hero for Canada and one of nine Sikh troops who were permitted to fight for Canada in the First World War.
