The 40-year-old Harpreet Kaur who died after being stabbed last week in Surrey has been named by the RCMP.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) stated in a Friday news conference that she was discovered in medical distress at her residence in the 12700-block of 66th Avenue on Wednesday at 9:22 p.m. Her husband was also detained at the scene.

Thursday saw the husband's release. Sgt. Timothy Pierotti said that out of respect for the family's privacy, police are not disclosing any information concerning the potential presence of children.

He declared, "IHIT continues to gather evidence and we're attempting to achieve the charge approval criteria."

"I realise a case like this involving suspected domestic abuse can devastate a community, so we wanted to disclose as much information as we can as quickly as we possibly could," the official said.

According to authorities, the victim suffered multiple stab wounds and died in the hospital.
