Transport Canada proposes guidelines for seat belts on school buses.
The seat belts could soon become mandatory on school buses in Canada, under regulations proposed by the Federal Government.
The proposal would improve safety for children caught up in severe crashes, especially rollovers, says Transport Canada.
The agency is looking to require over-the-shoulder belts instead of lap-only seat belts in order to reduce the risk of injury.
The proposed regulations in the Canada Gazette stress that school buses are safe to ride.
