Gunman shot dead: 'Traumatic' hostage situation at bank in Vaughan ended.

Police were able to get some customers and employees out of the bank, Pattenden said, but a number of people remained inside with the gunman.

Police say they had to use “lethal force to subdue” the man inside a Royal Bank branch in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive West and Dufferin Street in Vaughan.Police responded to the call around 1 p.m.

No other injuries have been reported.Paramedics were treating some people at the scene for minor injuries, mostly chest pains related to anxiety.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

All roads in the area of the bank, located inside a commercial plaza that also contains a pharmacy, a gas station and a medical clinic, were closed and authorities are asking everyone to avoid the area.
