Special weather statements have been issued for much of southern and eastern Ontario and it could impact your morning commute on Wednesday.

Snow is expected to begin overnight across Southwestern Ontario and advance eastward to reach the Greater Toronto Area in time for the Wednesday morning commute. General snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are likely by the time the snow tapers off Wednesday afternoon.

Areas close to the Lake Ontario shoreline may see slightly higher amounts due to extra moisture from the lake.

While snow amounts are expected to be below the snowfall warning criteria of 15 cm or more within 12 hours, the timing of the snowfall could affect road conditions and visibilities, especially during the Wednesday morning commute.

The region is on the northwestern edge of a storm system that will mainly affect the American side of the border.

Residents are advised  to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
