West Nile virus found on Toronto Islands.
Mosquitoes containing the dangerous West Nile virus have been found on the Toronto Islands, just as city officials say the summer hotspot will be ready to accept visitors by Monday.
The islands have been closed and ferry service has been suspended to non-residents since early May due to “unprecedented” flooding.
City public health officials has informed an Island residents' group that mosquitoes caught in traps on the island tested positive for West Nile.
Wynna Brown, spokesperson for the city said that crews are working hard to get as much of the islands open as possible by July 31.
