Woman charged in death of two men in Brampton house fire last year

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police are investigating the deaths of two men who died in a house fire in the city of Brampton.

On Thursday, May 7, 2020, police received a fire call at approximatley 10:41p.m., the rooming house is located at 5 Mill Street North in the City of Brampton. Police and Brampton Fire services arrived to find the home fully engulfed. After the fire was extinguished two male bodies were located in the residence.

The victims have been identified as, Keith Powell, a 65-year-old man from Brampton, and Darell Terrell, a 59-year-old man from Brampton.

After a thorough investigation in collaboration with the Ontario Fire Marshal, investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau have charged a 34-year-old woman with numerous offences.

Amanda Smith, of no fixed address, has been charged with Manslaughter x2, Criminal Negligence Cause Death x2 and Arson Endangering Life. Amanda Smith appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice on February 17, 2021 in answer to the charges.
