PM Justin Trudeau said today that the federal government intends to rename National Aboriginal Day as National Indigenous Peoples Day.

He further stated that Canadians come together on this day to recognize contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Metis people, adding that the history, art, traditions and cultures of Indigenous People shaped Canada's past and continue to shape it today.

Trudeau has also announced that 100 Wellington St. in Ottawa, a heritage building and former U.S. embassy, will become a space dedicated to Inuit, Métis and First Nations peoples.
